Hi I thought i would send a quick reply, Gene made an appearance at the Paramount with his own band on May 15th 1940, and broke all opening records with 12,800 people attending before noon and grossed $59,000 the first week,$47,000 the second and ...
This is very easy to answer! Gene is not the drummer on this recording, and it is Ben Pollack. The best discography in my opinion is probably the one that Russ Connor produced, and is a must for Gene fans. Gene's first association with BG recording...
Paul, I presume you are on vacation as I have had no response to the strap line Gene used on his bass drum from Nov 1941.The U.S.A entered World War 2 Dec 7 1941, and this strap line was the endoresment and official song of the U. S. Army Air Corp...
Hey Brooks,
Great to see you involved with these things, the Dennis Brown work is probably the best detail I originally read for some significant time on our idol.
Best personal regards,
Jerry.
Hi, The reason for joining is because I have idolised G K for 43 years this September. My father had a large collection of records which he collected during active service during World War 2 and was a survivor of Bomber Command flying Lancasters f...
I have just signed up, I understand that my great friend Brooks Tegler has also. With us now on board should significantly enhance the knowledge we have of "the most inspirational of all, Gene Krupa.
Regards Jerry.
The bass player is Benny Moten. I saw Benny Moten with Gene at the Metropole. I met him. I know what he looks like. Look at the Dial M For Music video. It's the same guy. He is also anounced as Benny Moten. The Dean Martin Show aired 9/22/66 which was a Thursday. That was the regular night of the week that the Dean Martin show aired. The Dean Martin Shows were recorded on the previous Sunday which was September 18, 1966.
Hey Jerry ! Am new to the "club" but seems to be quite a collection of folks here. Looks to be a very valuable resource for those interested in the genre but, sadly, much of what I've seen so far does smack more of the typical than the exceptional. Am looking forward to some good, productive exchanges centered more on a genuine interest in furthering the knowledge base of these great icons of our music as opposed to the usual self promoting one usually comes across. Happy to see you here as well. Have known few others with the passion for and "data base" that you carry of Gene and his music.
