I believe this CD has been floating around for awhile, and not to promote our own stuff, I don't think there's anything really new on it. The only non-released London House stuff I've heard in recent years comes from our very own London House rar...

Hey Brooks, Great to see you involved with these things, the Dennis Brown work is probably the best detail I originally read for some significant time on our idol. Best personal regards, Jerry.

AMEN! (i think Bruce just wanted to point out that,....FINALLY, someone had done their "homework" on the topic). I wholeheartedly concur. Although it had a profound effect on Gene and how he lived, it is a tiny blip in a great man's history and no...

BUDDY RICH AND THE HOLY GRAIL: IN STORES NOW!

Most jazz fans have a list--written or otherwise--of the audio and video recordings they always wanted and wished for, but could never find.

Jazz historians are still hoping that a sound recording of the elusive trumpeter Buddy Bolden, said to have influenced King Oliver, Louis, Bix and the rest, will someday surface.

Drum fans would love to believe that more film will surface of Chick Webb and Dave Tough, as well as Max Roach and Kenny Clarke during their groundbreaking, mid-1940s period with… Continue

JATP HELSINKI ON DVD

The fabulous YouTube clip of Jazz at the Philharmonic greats -- including Gene Krupa, J.C. Heard, Flip Phillips, Lester Young, Ella, Oscar and the rest--is now on DVD and available via JazzLegends.com. Also on the program, which we've called BennyTube, are the two rare YouTube clips of Benny Goodman, Gene and Jess Stacey on a Peggy Lee TV special from the late 1950s, a clip from the "other" Swing into Spring TV special with BG and Red Norvo, and the original theatrical trailer in color to "The B… Continue

JAZZLEGEND.COM JANUARY, 2008 COLUMN

JazzLegends.com column

Some changes are in the offing for 2009 at JazzLegends.com. My sincere thanks for the hundreds who have taken advantage of our "everything $10 sale over the past few months. I ask for your understanding and patience. We have been deluged with orders, and are thankful for it, but it will take a few weeks to catch up. Remember, we have no inventory, per se, as every item is custom duplicated. While the $10 sale is over for the moment, we are only raising prices halfway, in… Continue

Dr. Klauber,
I am writing a book with Jeff Ocheltree, on his life as a drum tech for many of the big acts in the 1960's to the present. His most famous client, John Bohnam (Led Zeppelin) will be an interesting study within the book. I am looking for a publisher/agent. Can you assist me in any way to help get this project off the ground properly? The book is to be finished by the end of 2009 if not sooner, with comment from Steve Smith. Thanks for your help and suggestions. Rob Spencer

Hi Bruce; We have never meet but for the last 12 years we have been in contact throught one way or another. Since the first time I purchased a video of Gene Krupa up to present you have always been professional in everything you do. Never knew you played the drums until now, but I should have know with all of the knowledge & footage you have of past drummers. As you know I am a big Gene, Buddy & Louie guy and since the age of 8 have been trying to mold myself after these giants. But I'm so glad I ordered videos & DVD from you, you have opened my eyes to all of the greats. Thank you for being the great person you are.
God Bless: Tony T. NYC Please check me out at www.tonytorchestra.com and do keep in touch.

G'day Bruce.

Loved your article "Gigs and Gas", but please tell me where I can buy my petrol (gas) for $5 per gallon. Yesterday I paid $A1.71 per litre (USD7.05 per US gallon), and that was with a discount shop-a-docket. I believe that it is even more expensive in the UK. Where will it end?

Kindest regards

Terry

Welcome everyone to the newly-redesigned, re-vamped, updated, nearly state-of-the-art version of JazzLegends.com As the founder of the site, biographer of Gene Krupa and writer/producer of most of the DVDs out there on Gene, Buddy and the rest, I welcome new friends and old to the home of the jazz drumming legends.

Please feel free to let me know personally--at DrumAlive@aol.com--what you're looking for, what you'd like to see, etc.

Please take a close, close look at the Buddy Rich / Johnny Carson / Dick Cavett / Merv Griffin material available for sale. It's priceless and it's astounding.

Coming within days are three very, very special pieces of audio that, for the first time, you can pre-order.

First is "the final Benny Goodman Quartet reunions. We have already been offering the August 18, 1973 Saratoga concert (Gene's last appearance with Benny). This CD contains that show, with improved sound, but in additon, it has over 20 minutes of Quartet tracks from July 15, 1973, including a seven-plus minute version of "Avalon." Speaking of Goodman, our ultra-rare "Where's Benny?" CD (where Gene leads the Goodman band in May of 1953 after Benny took a powder) is a must-have, and I'm surprised more of you haven't ordered it.

Second on the new CD agenda is "London House Rarities Volume One," a superb collection of out takes and never-released tracks from the famed Krupa Quartet with Eddie Wasserman, Ronnie Ball and Jimmy Gannon. These come from three separate dates, held on December 15, 1958, December 25, 1958 and January 1, 1959. That's right: Christmas and New Year's.

London House Rarities Volume Two contains additional tracks from the above dates, plus tunes from another session on December 18, 1958. There are two tracks from 1956 that we haven't yet heard, which are "Dark Eyes" and "Flyin' Home." The remainder of this CD has the legendary Krupa Trio Bandbox tracks from 1953, contained on the JazzLegends.com issue entitled "The Last and Greatest Live Recordings of the Original Gene Krupa Jazz Trio." On these tracks, the sound is slightly upgraded.

We're out there scouring the globe for more, rare stuff by Gene and the other legends. You have our sincerest thanks for your continued support and again, welcome.

God bless and keep swingin'
BRUCE KLAUBER
