Oh jeez, I can't believe I forgot. Gene inspires me to keep on playing drums and swinging no matter every other drummer today is doing. And of course does indeed have many thanks and praise due as well, you made a great collection of Gene recordings and with this site brought together some great people.
Anyway, I was thinking of making a Gene Krupa tribute video, with some of his most notable licks into one giant solo. Although with just me, it might get a little drab and I know I am not the best at imitating Gene. Maybe some of you other forum goers can help me out? Chip in a video of you performing your favorite Gene licks and I can edit them all together in one collaborated Jazz Legends tribute solo. Something along the lines of that idea.

It's amazing to think that Gene would be 100 now. When I first saw him in person he was 55 years old (I was 14) and I couldn't believe that he or anyone could play drums at such an advanced age! Now I'm 58 and I feel like a kid. Interesting how your perspective changes! He was the champ. Also remember that today is the 71st anniversary of the Carnegie Hall concert. I don't imagine that there are very many alive today who attended that momentous concert.
Happy Birthday Gene !.....I like to believe that each time a storm passes by, the thunder is really you up there soloing on your Slings. They don't make 'em like you anymore. Thanks for the music and memories you provided. You'll always be alive and swingin' in our hearts. And of course, thanks to Dr. Bruce Klauber for his dedication and devotion.
