Just thought I'd share a new Gene Krupa CD release in case you haven't heard. I just received it in the mail from CD Universe. Always happy to see a new CD that seemingly hasn't been previously issued all or in part before. Plan on listening to it over the long Labor Day weekend. Here's the link
Hello Metro,
Yes i too have the above mentioned cd and it's to know that Wayne Knight is still championing Krupa material, the items on this disc are not that rare and tho the sound is bood it's not really any better than other sources of the same.
The only question i have over the release is the date given for the final portion of tracks, "i never knew" ect, these have been out for many many years both on lp and cd but i always had the date as March 1961 and not as in this new cd..November 1960, so which is correct?
You could very well be correct about the dates. I'm thinking you're referring to the "The Big Noise From Winnetka" Sounds of YesterYear label cd. I never gave it much thought as Krupa did many gigs at the London House. We may never know for sure which transcripts are which. I'm sure there must still be some unpublished tapes out there that will eventually end up on cd.
Also, I have the Jazzlegends "London House Rareties" Volumes 1 & 2 cd's which Dr. Klauber put together. I'm thinking some of that material is contained on this new cd altough I haven't made any side by side comparisons. As you know many cd's are marketed with sometimes only new packaging while the material is in fact rereleases of earlier copies.
Perhaps one day when I feel up to it, I'll listen carefully to the Jazzlegends cd's vs. this new cd and hope I got at least a few different versions.
Good hearing from you. Always enjoy reading your posts and comments.
