Hi Everyone
I logged onto YOUTUBE.COM and found a video clip I hadn't seen before - its called Gene Krupa live in 65 - from a documentary called "Anatomy of Popular Music". Maybe some of you have seen this clip of Gene with his Quartet (Eddie Shu on Tenor) playing "Drum Boggie". If you haven't seen it - go have a look and listen - Gene is sure going some - when you consider critics had virtually written him off by the mid late 60's - they should have listened a bit more closely.
Keep well every one - Paul great to hear from you and your illustrious family (Tony Spargo) - keep punching Cheers from London Peter
That clip was in the video, "Gene Krupa Swing Swing Swing." I believe it filmed at The Metropole. When I began production on that video, I was told that there were a few hours shot at The Pole that night, and I even tried to track down the guy who shot it. To no avail.
Hi Bruce
Good to hear from you. I don't remember seeing this clip on the Swing, Swing, Swing DVD - I must look at it again. Anyhow, as you say Gene was sure having a good time. In this day and age when everyone uses their mobile phones or mini cameras to film artists in concert, it is such a shame that relatively little was filmed of these great artists like Gene. You have been brilliant in finding so many gems and we are all forever grateful to you for what you have done. On a personal note, I am still punching away and may have some positive news (Gods willing) next week. Keep well Peter
